Heathrow Airport Hotel Guide For The Leisure Traveller

Heathrow Airport London is the busiest international airport in the world. Around 35% of its passengers are transit passengers, i.e. passengers that are just using London to make connections.
Just one reason why there are nearly 40 airport hotels at Heathrow serving the local demand for overnight stopovers.

For many of these hotels the businessman with an expense account is their bread and butter. This article seeks to address the leisure traveller, providing a guide to getting value for money locating a bed at Heathrow.

We’ll start off by dividing the hotels into three categories.
There are the large 4 and 5 star chain hotels like Hilton, Radisson and Sheraton aimed at the businessmen, typically charging $US200 during the week, half that at weekends.
Then there are the 2 and 3 star hotels, again mostly chains, like Comfort Inn, Ibis and Premier Travel Inn, aimed at the leisure traveller and the businessmen on a budget. These will typically charge just over $US100 during the week, about $US75 at weekends.
Lastly, there are the small independent local hotels, mostly family owned who offer cheap ‘bed and breakfast’ style rooms. These have the cheapest accommodation.

Room rates can seem good value, especially at weekends when the businessmen are away and everyone deep discounts to fill beds. However, beware, what the hotel doesn’t get in room rates they’ll try and get out of you in other ways.

There are no hotels in the central passenger area where Terminals 1, 2 and 3 are located, though there is a hotel linked to Terminal 4 on the south side of the airport – the expensive Hilton Hotel, not for most leisure travellers.
This means a bus transfer, and unlike most international airports there are no complimentary hotel transfer buses. The airport authority provides ‘Hoppa Buses’, mid-size buses that run every 10-20 minutes on fixed routes to Heathrow Hotels. At 3 GBP per person per journey, thats an extra $US20 for a couple staying at a Heathrow Hotel.

Most hotels will charge anything from $US10-$US30 for breakfast, and at most hotels there isn’t viable competition outside the front door. Dinner is similarly expensive and entertainment is largely limited to an expensive bar.

So, tips for the leisure traveller trying to economise.
Look for a hotel on the Bath Road, this is the northern perimeter road of Heathrow Airport and the main hotel strip.
Public buses run more frequently than the Hoppa Buses along the Bath Road into Heathrow Terminals, and they’re free. (The fees from the Hoppa Buses are part used to subsidise the free local buses).
The Bath Road is the only location where you can escape your hotel. There is a pub serving meals, 2 McDonalds, a bowling alley, a small supermarket and an Italian Restaurant that can provide breakfasts, snacks and meals on the Bath Road. There are also 24 hour public buses running to local towns Kingston and Hounslow for entertainment.
Taking the above together, the benchmark for the leisure traveller is the Ibis and Premier Travel Inn hotels.

The other local option is to consider local Bed & Breakfast hotels. These do not provide an airport transfer but many are on the periphery of the airport on a bus or underground route. Their room rates are similar to the budget hotels but this includes a hearty breakfast and the transfer is still cheaper than the Hoppa Bus.

One other option is to forget Heathrow altogether and overnight in Central London. The Heathrow Express takes just 15 minutes to London’s Paddington Station and there is lots of cheap accommodation around the station. You’ll certainly have a more entertaining evening in London than at an airport hotel, and at a similar overall price.

Pet Friendly Holidays, Trips the Whole Family Can Enjoy

If your family has pets then you'll know how attached you can get to your four-legged friend, they are practically an extra member to the family and so you'll want them to go everywhere with you when it comes to going on holiday.

If your holiday plans this year don't involve flying out of the country (and with the rising cost of flights and living in general not many will be able to afford it anyway!) then there's no reason why you can't take your dog along too. Think of it from his perspective, they get to see somewhere new; chances are it will be in the country so there will be many fields and beaches to stretch their legs and run around. It may end up being a more enjoyable holiday for your dog than for yourself!

The problem with this is unless you have your own caravan or motor home then you may be hard pressed to get accommodation that would welcome you and your dog. Obviously not everyone likes dogs and if the owner of a hotel you book into is one of these people then you're going to be sorely disappointed if you turn up and they turn you away because they don't allow pets.

All is not lost though as there is a niche hotel market for dog-friendly Bed and Breakfasts and hotels in the UK. These hotels accommodate pets either in the guest's rooms or have specific areas or kennels for your dog to stay at. Even better there are some holiday rental cottages that will accommodate your whole family and your pets with the added bonus of having your own living space and gardens for your dog to enjoy.

Quite often these hotels and cottages are surprisingly easy to find, most hotels will clearly state whether they are a "dogs welcome" establishment so you don't have to search specifically for this kind of hotel however it makes sense to know what types of hotels and what areas are likely to allow pets. Countryside getaways are much more likely to permit pets than city locations; popular hiking locations such as the Lake District in Cumbria and Devon are likely to have a lot of pet friendly hotels since people typically may bring their pets on a hiking holiday as it helps them get some exercise.

So this year if you are planning a holiday in the countryside and have a dog then why not save some money on kennel fees and take them along with you, they're bound to love you for it once they're running free in a field or jumping into a pond!

If you have a four legged friend that you want to take on holiday then keep a look out for dog-friendlyhotels that will let you bring your pets. It is worth searching the internet for hotels that are described as "dogs welcome". -

Cyprus Island, History In The Mediterranean Sea

The third largest island in the heart of the pristine Mediterranean Sea, Cyprus, is full of rich history, splendors that dazzle the eye and incredible attractions making it one of the world's most prominent tourist attractions. With its easy access form all corners of the earth; there is no reason to skip out on this alluring island paradise.

Cyprus has a culture rich with Western Europe. Greek mythology calls the island the birthplace of Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love and Beauty. It's location being close to the shores of Africa and Asia it is riddled with touches of the East. Its rich, cultural tones, which creep throughout the island, are an excellent place to start your journey, immersing yourself in an ambience soaked in fascinating history.

The city of Limassol is the second largest city of Cyprus, which flourishes with ancient ruins and modern wonders. One of the first places to greet tourists like a stone monolith looming on the horizon is Kolossi Castle. The castle was said to be the marriage place of Richard the Lion Heart to Berengaria of Navarro after the returning form the Crusades. It was destroyed during the 15th century but was rebuilt on a smaller scale then left to ruin and eventually the British restored the castle in 1933.

Within the city limits of Limassol lies the ancient city of Kourion. Containing some of the most masterful ruins on Cyprus, this ancient city should not be overlooked. The ruins contain a Greco-Roman theatre, which is a breath-taking sight to behold. Other key attractions in Kourion are the House of Gladiators, the House of Achilles and several well-preserved mosaics. Another place of interest is the Cyprus Medieval Museum that is housed in the Limassol Castle. If able to do so, a whole day could easily be spent exploring what the past has to offer.
Nicosia, the capital of the island, is filled with museums and districts delivering information about the history, art, literature and culture have laid the foundation for the island's colorful culture. Among them is the famous Byzantine Museum that contains historical artifacts ranging between the 9th and 18th centuries. Laiki Yitonia is an area filled with pedestrians that boasts restaurants, art galleries, and shopping. The architecture of this area pays homage to a forgotten era in the history of Cyprus.

In the capital city lie the ruins of the Kingdom of Idalion. The Ancient city is still in the process of being excavated but here this is the location with roots deep in mythological lore. This is the place where her jealous husband, through use of a wild boar, killed Aphrodite's lover, Adonis. The ancient city can be seen on the outskirts of the village, Dhali.

Among the historical sights, Cyprus is also known for its glorious festivals that occur though out the year. In June, Kataklysmos, the Festival of the Flood, takes place in Limassol. On the Sunday after Pentecost and the Monday of the Holy Spirit, people gather on the near sea to douse each other in water from the sea in honor of Aphrodite and Adonis. Singing and dance contests last thought out the festival spreading jubilation to all who attend.

In late August and early September, tourists flock in great hordes to take part in the Limassol Wine Festival. It rivals the festivals held by the ancient Greeks honoring Dionysus, the God of Wine and Aphrodite. At this festival, the locals serve up mouth-watering dishes, a vast medley of wines and a heart-warming environment with local theatre, music and dancing. This festival is the perfect time to visit Cyprus and save money while doing it (the festival is free of charge).

Although it is hidden deep in the realm of the gorgeous blue Mediterranean, Cyprus offers quite the travel destination. With is fair climate year round, there isn't a poor time to visit and get lost in culture far different from your own.

Internet Access In Mainland China For Business And Leisure

Internet access in China

It was difficult getting internet access in China a mere 6 years ago. Corporate leased line were difficult to apply for, hotels had no internet access, dial-ups were extremely unreliable, xDSL or cable were largely unavailable and cybercafes largely denied foreigners access.

Today, China is one of the easiest country in Asia to make internet accessible to businesses, homes, travellers and students.

If you are a business traveller or tourist, you will be pleasantly surprised that almost all hotels, down to 3 stars hotels, even in more remote cities offer broadband internet access in their hotel rooms. Most rooms will have an ethernet port for you to hook up to the hotel's broadband. Access is mostly automatically DHCP with dynamic IPs but in certain hotels, you may need to call the reception to allow access from your room.

You can also visit a cybercafe or 'wang ba' as they are known in China. Cybercafes are everywhere in China and can be a dingy 5 computer setup to large cybercafes with hundreds and hundreds of computers. Most cybercafes in China are patronized by young people whose sole purpose are computer games or online-chatting. These youngsters can spend days in the cybercafes without going home. If you find them too noisy for your liking, you can even request for a private VIP room to surf in peace and comfort!

As a foreigner, you will need to show your passport before you can be allowed access to a cybercafe. In many provinces, the local law requires your picture to be taken and your particulars submitted to a central database. The cybercafes are pretty strict about this or they are liable to have their operating licences taken away. Cybercafes are lucrative businesses in China and you can be sure that they implement the required laws most strictly!

One of the problem that you may face in a public cybercafe is that all the log-in procedures and computer operating systems will only be in Chinese even in the touristy areas. Hence, you will need the cybercafe operator assistance before you can eventually start answering all your Hotmails and Gmails.

If you like visiting coffee cafes, you will also find that many of the newer cafes offer internet points for you to plug in your laptop. Most of the time, usage is free. At this point of time, wireless internet access does not seem to be entirely popular as compared to wire access in these cafes.

If you are running a business, getting a corporate lease line or xDSL broadband is a breeze with very competitive ISP fighting for your business. Monthly charges are low and access speed is decent. In fact, many newer office buildings offer broadband access as part of the rental deal and you need not apply seperately to the ISP.

Home users are well taken care of as well. Many new apartment also comes with broadband access or you can apply to the ISPs directly. Charges for monthly sDSL broadband can be as low as US12.

Control of the internet

China is one of the countries with strict internet laws. Having said that, internet usage in China is very, very high for both business and social use. Because personal computers are still expensive by China's income standard, most people access the internet from cybercafes or from offices.

All websites hosted in China needs to be a approved by a government unit. One of the first thing you will notice in China is that domestic sites are blazingly fast but foreign hosted sites tend to be very slow. This is due to foreign sites having to go through a proxy as well as a bottleneck on China's limited conduit out to the international internet pipes.

Many foreign sites such as CNN, Falungong, Playboy and other sites deem sensitive to China's society are blocked.

Web applications and development in China are often of a high standard. Many domestic sites such as Alibaba and Sohu has made it to the very competitive top internet arenas. Many web development companies from Taiwan, South Korea and even the USA has also made China their development base for their web applications as China offers a large pool of competitive and high qualified web developers.

Shanghai - A City of Many Faces

Shanghai divides easily into three major parts: the Old City; the Former French, British and America Concessions; and Pudong, the New Shanghai. While the structures of the older city tend to reflect typically older or traditional Chinese culture, the Pudong projects its vision of Shanghai with towering skyscrapers and bright lights. Wherever you stay, in traditional or newer luxury hotels, Shanghai promises you will experience a city in which the past and the present coexist.

Architectural Contrasts

In Shanghai, architecture reflects the trends and culture of the period. The Bund is, however, the best place to visit to view the range of popular international styles of the 1920s and 1930s. In construction of its banks, theatres and luxury hotels, Shanghai saw the favouring of the Art Deco style. This is particularly true in the Peace Hotel by Palmer and Turner and the Park Hotel by L. Hudec.

In parts of the Old City, the international look never gained a footing. Art Deco was not common, but traditional Shikumen (old stone gatehouse) houses remain. So, too, do temples and market places. In Xintiandi, renovation and restoration has modernised the Shikumen, turning them into trendy bars, chic stores and high-end restaurants.

Across the river, a different type of architecture plays out. This is the Shanghai of the future. In Pudong, the buildings and towers are bold and brassy. They reflect the new Shanghai. The Oriental Pearl tower is the tallest of its kind in Asia, while the silvery-coloured Jinmao Tower is a marvellously elegant and rich 88-floor hotel. The Shanghai World Financial Centre is also in Pudong. Constructed in 2008, it rises up 101 stories. This impressive structure includes the Skywalk, an observation platform, and the world's highest hotel - the Park Shanghai Hyatt.

Museums - Big and Small

You can often judge the worth of a city by how it takes care of and presents its past. While it boasts high-end shopping, lively entertainment, beautiful architecture and luxury hotels, Shanghai also allows visitors a look at the city's past. It even provides a look at different aspects of the city's cultural history.

A visit to the city is not complete without spending time admiring all that the Shanghai Museum in People's Square has to offer. Among the more than 120,000 pieces are truly unique items. The Sancai (3-colour) pottery figures are exquisite in design and rendering. The Shang Bronzes include some wonderful objects of skilled craftsmanship and art. In the Jade Gallery, you can wander past delicately carved pieces of jade. Some date back as far as the 31st century C.B.E. The exhibits include skilfully rendered and ornate artefacts that range from the Neolithic period to the Quing Dynasty.

Shanghai hosts other smaller, and often curious, museums. One of the more intriguing local museums is the Shanghai Jewish Refugee Museum. You can locate it on Changyang Road, Hongkou District. The 1927 structure originally housed the Ohel Moshe Synagogue. During the 1930s and into the period of World War II, the Synagogue was the place of worship for many of the Jewish refugees seeking safety from the ongoing slaughter. Shanghai, unlike other cities and countries, did not refuse Jews. In fact, it took in approximately 25,000.

Today, the Synagogue is a reminder of an important part of Shanghai's past and Jewish history. The former Prime Minister of Israel, Yitzhak Rabin, came to the Museum in 1993. He admired the various cultural relics, including ancient scrolls. Yet, he also came to thank the people in Shanghai for doing what so many other peoples and nations had failed to do.

Entertainment that Delights

You can find entertainment in many of the city's luxury hotels. Shanghai, however, beckons visitors with a variety of venues and forms of entertainment. They reflect Shanghai's heritage as both traditional and western-influenced offerings vie for your attention. Catch the incredible and world-famous Shanghai Acrobatic Troupe at either the Shanghai Circus World or over at the Shanghai Centre Theatre. The Peace Hotel offers traditional New Orleans Jazz nightly, while over at Babyface, the trendy and popular nightclub, visitors can people-watch and listen to more mainstream music.

If you are a fan of opera, consider sampling Chinese opera. The Yifu Theatre provides classic examples of this stylised form of traditional music. The Heluting Concert Hall, meanwhile, provides performances of classical and chamber music while the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra is on stage at the modern, butterfly-shaped Shanghai Oriental Art Centre.

Jazz and Blues are alive in Shanghai. Visit the Cotton Club, the J2 Club or even the House of Blues and Jazz. Alternatively, you can check a local guide and find any number of modern techno, indie or popular music venues.

Jamaica Travel: Get the Most Out of Your Trip

Do you want to travel to Jamaica for a great vacation? If so, you should take a number of important steps. Jamaica is one of those vacation destinations where you are all but guaranteed to have the trip of a lifetime. With that said, why not take a few extra steps to get the most out of yours? What should you do?

Plan your Jamaica vacation in advance. Yes, it is possible to plan a trip to Jamaica at the last minute, but you should avoid doing so. Why? Last minute vacations often result in rushed plans, second choice accommodations, and errors. Are you really willing to risk the success of your Caribbean vacation? You shouldn’t be. Not only that, but a passport is required for United States citizens traveling to and from Jamaica. If you do not have a valid passport, give yours at least one or two months to arrive.

One of the reasons why many first-time tourists plan last minute vacations is because they think they will get the best deal. Last minute travel deals and discounts do exist, but they are not guaranteed. Don’t risk losing the vacation of your dreams. Luckily, Jamaica hotels and resorts offer good travel deals and discounts throughout the year. Even if you plan your trip eight months in advance, you should still get a good price.

Stay at one of the many all-inclusive resorts in Jamaica. Jamaica is home to many inclusive resorts. These establishments are different from traditional hotels. In fact, they are much better. When you book a stay at an all-inclusive resort, your stay should include qualifying airport transfers, some forms of onsite entertainment, food, drinks, snacks, tips, and your room or suite. These resorts not only get you a better value for your money, but they also simplify the process of planning your trip.

Another reason why you should opt for an all-inclusive Jamaica resort, if you have yet to make your travel plans, is because you never need to leave. Of course, you can get out and explore the island, but there is plenty to do back at your resort. They come in all different formats, but most resorts are beachfront, opening up a world of water sports and fun. You are also likely to find spas, fitness centers, tennis courts, multiple bars, and restaurants.

Choose your Jamaica hotel or resort wisely. As previously stated, inclusive resorts come highly rated and recommended. Regardless of where you stay, make your choice wisely. Be sure you are provided with what you want and need. Although upscale hotels and resorts do have onsite swimming pools, an inland hotel or motel may not have one. Also, examine pictures. Know what you can expect when arriving. Don’t be disappointed when all it took to thoroughly examine your options was a standard internet search online.

Familiarize yourself with your resort’s services, facilities, and other amenities. You should automatically do this by choosing your Jamaica hotel or resort wisely. However, if you already made your travel arrangement or opted for the lowest price, do the review now. As previously stated, many resorts are home to numerous facilities, services, and other amenities. With all-inclusive resorts in Jamaica, many are already included in the cost of your stay. Don’t let a good opportunity, especially a moneysaving one, pass you by because you weren’t informed. When on your trip, don’t forget to keep your eyes and ears open. Look for scheduled activities and events and speak to employees to stay in the know.

Save extra money for your trip. Right now, many Americans are on a budget. This results in cost cutting measures. To save money, look for all-inclusive resorts because you get the best value for your money, price compare, and look for moneysaving travel discounts. Once you create your budget, be sure to have extra spending money. Although all-inclusive resorts are designed so that you never have to leave, you may want to get out and explore the great island of Jamaica. Ensure you have money to buy souvenirs, visit attractions, and eat. You should plan to have at least $50 for each day you venture off the hotel or resort grounds.

Fun Times on a Holiday to Luxor

Holidays to Luxor are not only fascinating they are fun and exciting. The Temple of Luxor is a beautiful place to visit to see the design and structure. The temple is located down the road from the Museum of Ancient Egyptian Art. The museum has so many exhibits on display to see. Luxor has two sides to visit. The east side and the west side are both places of interest. You will see ancient ruins and the tombs if you visit Thebes, the capital city. Luxor is much more than a tourist destination. It is a historical paradise that everyone enjoys.

On the east side, you will find a more modern Luxor. The museums, shops and restaurants are found mostly on the east side. If you need public transportation, the east side has trains and buses. If you are looking for things to do for tourists, you want to visit the west side of Luxor. The short ride from one side to another is easy to take so that everyone can stay in hotels on the east side and travel to the west side for sightseeing. More hotels are being built on the west side so that visitors can stay on the west side instead of taking the short cruise back and forth.

In Luxor, you can do some sightseeing by horse and carriage, bicycles or walking. If you enjoy walking, you can visit the Valley of the Queens by walking through the desert. Not only is the desert walk adventurous, it shows you the beauty of the area. The Ancient Thebes can be accessed by bicycle if you want to spend the day exploring the land by bike. There are many bicycle rentals around the west side. You can find so many interesting and exciting things to do in Luxor.

The nightlife is non-existence in Luxor unless your hotel has a bar and lounge. The Muslim law forbids drinking of alcoholic beverages in public. The hotels are not run by Muslims and do have bars and drinks. You could find a few places that might sell alcoholic beverages for cash and carry, but you must keep it out of sight until you reach your hotel. Luxor is a beautiful place to visit, but you do have to follow their customs and beliefs. There are many places to eat on the west side and the east side.

The history and culture of Luxor is something that attracts so many visitors. Although, you have to follow the customs, you can enjoy your cheap holidays to Luxor. The eateries serve some of the same foods you would find at home. There is a McDonald's and a Jamboree, which have the foods most will be familiar with. On the west side, it is possible to find some area bars, but they are few and in between. The west side is more fun that the modern east side. You should see everything on the west side, but do not forget to explore the easy side as well.

How to Travel Cheap - Traveling With Your Pets Across the Country

Have a new job and need to move your pet across the country? Trying to decide on the best and cheapest way to accomplish this? This article will provide some insight of how to travel cheap with your pets across the country or even just across the state if that's how far you need to go.

Many people look upon their dogs, cats, and other pets as children. I know I do! I could never consider moving to another place without taking my pets along. Whenever I hear about someone taking their dog to the shelter because they are "moving" I really can't fathom it. So let's see what you need to do to get your animals moved with you!

First, be sure your pet is healthy. You need a health certificate, license, and proof of vaccinations, so pack those along for each pet.

If you are flying and wondering how to travel cheap on planes, the best thing is to take your pet on board with you if they are small enough. I recommend avoiding planes if your pet cannot be taken on board with you. But if you have no other options, shop around well in advance for discounted airfare for pets.

Remember that you will be in a strange place so - this is very important - check all collars and make sure they are very secure and with identification tags attached. See that the collar cannot slip over your pet's head. You will be getting out of the car to let them potty in, most likely, different rest stops on the interstate and I have heard of many horror stories of dogs getting lost at rest areas. Please be extra careful the minute you open the door. Dogs are amazingly adept at backing out of collars so use a harness if possible.

Plan ahead for your accommodations. Many books feature pet-friendly hotels, or you can look them up online. However, be sure to call ahead to verify and also make reservations so you won't be left driving late into the night looking for a place to stay. How to travel cheap at pet-friendly hotels? Compare prices before leaving home and make your reservations well in advance to take advantage of specials.

Consider a seatbelt for your dog if he or she is not traveling in a crate. I am a volunteer with english pointer rescue, and we require all our traveling pointers to be secured in the car with a doggie seatbelt. You can easily find one in your local pet shop or online.

With a little extra effort, and a little research on how to travel cheap, you can easily move you and your furkids across the country without a lot of trouble.

Want to find out how to travel cheap? Wonder how everyone else finds such great deals online? You can't afford not to check out http://www.the-cheap-traveler.com for secrets straight from a fired travel agent to you.

Disneyland Vacation Packages

Finding The Best Online Disneyland Vacation Packages There are an infinite number of online travel sources offering Disneyland vacation packages. A query with a popular search engine yielded over four million links when the keywords were entered. That amount of information can overload the most seasoned trip planner. This article aims to simplify the planning process for your next fun-filled family vacation to Disneyland.

The homepage for Disneyland Resorts offers a free vacation planning DVD that includes tours of the Disney theme parks in California and Florida, highlights of current shows and attractions, and additional planning tips for a Disneyland vacation. The online form asks for basic information and is very easy to fill out. This free DVD can be a great help in planning your vacation and getting everyone excited about a trip with a preview of what's in store for them at Disneyland.

The homepage for Disneyland Resorts are also a portal to vacation packages. The benefits of packages through this avenue include several exclusive offers of commemorative items and early entrance into the park. Travel reviews have indicated that the early entrance into the park isn't much of a benefit, however. The lines can still be long and the park crowded with other guests having access to the same early access. This is a quick way to get your trip booked but it is also the most expensive option when planning a Disneyland vacation.

Disney's Good Neighbor hotels are more economical than the Disney properties, but many hotel and travel websites offer these rooms at a discounted rate. Major travel websites also have car rental and airfare availability when putting together a Disneyland vacation package. They have add-on activities such as dining with characters and special excursions that can be personalized for your family vacation.

Auction websites are also an option to locate Disneyland vacations. Hotels and resorts frequently offer timeshare presentations in exchange for deeply discounted or free lodging. These types of offers are often found on auction websites. Travelers that have booked packages but for personal reasons are unable to travel may list accommodations as a way to recoup some of their money. One person's loss can be your family's gain.

There are many ways to find online Disneyland vacation packages. Hopefully this article offered some guidance to help make planning your Disneyland vacation a bit easier. Happy traveling.

Thank goodness winter is almost over. The kids and the pets may love the snow, but not me. My fingers go numb when I clean the snow off my car. Warmin

Holidays In Orlando Florida

A little known citrus farming center called Orlando was paid a visit the 1960s by a gentleman called Walt Disney who started buying land on the outskirts of the town.

The remainder of that story is now history and by 1971, that land had become Walt Disney World. Today, Orlando has a resident population of approximately 200,000 people and visitor numbers swell that figure into the many millions.

The words "Orlando, Florida" immediately conjure up images of fairy tale palaces, thrill rides, theme parks and Disney characters loved the world over. The combination of the "big 3" Orlando entertainment parks of Walt Disney World, Sea World and Universal Studios have no equal anywhere else in the world.

Located on the the outskirts of Orlando, the towns of Lake Buena Vista and Kissimmee are home to most of the major entertainment park attractions. It's no surprise that the accommodation industry generates a major portion of the Orlando economy and that it employs a high percentage of the local population.

The nearby towns of Winter Haven and Altamonte Springs offer a change of pace from the hustle and bustle of Orlando and the parks. Their quiet rural charm and sedate pace provides a glimpse back to the time before the area became the home of the world's best known entertainment parks.

** Orlando Hotels And Resorts

Orlando has more beds to service the tourist industry than any other USA city except for Las Vegas. Orlando is the fifth most popular USA city for travelers visiting from overseas. It is not surprising that the accommodation industry represents a major portion of the Orlando economy and employs a high percentage of the local population.

Visitors are spoiled for choice when it comes to Orlando accommodation and every taste is catered for in every price range. From themed luxury hotels, fantasy resorts, exclusive golf resorts, condominiums, vacation rentals, bed and breakfasts, backpacker hostels to luxury villas, it's all available in and around Orlando.

The parks have several entrances which can be separated from each other by quite a distance, so selecting accommodation near the best gate for you can be an important consideration. Orlando accommodation is often named for proximity to a particular theme park (Universal) or a particular gate (main gate east etc)

** Orlando Transport

At least 35 airlines and just as many charter operators fly into Orlando International Airport with the bulk of these flights being Delta which accounts for around 25% of the flights that originate in approximately 160 different cities.

Other airlines serving Orlando are America West, American, Air Canada, British Airways, Continental, Northwest and US Airways. The Orlando Airport website provides and excellent page about airport shuttle services and city transport.

Amtrak is the USA rail service and it operates to and from Orlando with connections to many of the surrounding towns such as Kissimmee, Sebring, Winter Haven, Sanford and Ocala.

The I Ride trolley service is an excellent way to get around the International Drive Resort precinct. The LYNX bus service covers the downtown Orlando metropolitan area and surrounding cities.

The main highway through Orlando is I4, running directly from downtown Orlando to the Disney area. If you plan on driving in Orlando, be prepared for traffic, especially at rush hour.

Personal Protection and Traveling Alone

Traveling alone makes people vulnerable and open for danger. There are many things that you can do for personal protection to ensure your safety.

When you are traveling alone and you know you will be alone it is very important to plan your trip in advance. Know where you are going to be, learn the map, determine your transportation and more. If you get a rental car the best thing you can do is get the GPS system. The last thing you want to happen is to get lost from your hotel on a bad side of town. A GPS allows you not to have to stop to ask strangers that you don't know for directions. Also, you should find out if the place you are traveling to is a safe destination for women to go to, especially if you are headed out of the country.

When you are traveling alone it may be tempting to get a cheap hotel so you can save money. One thing to consider is that the majority of the criminals are not going to target people in the larger and safer hotels. This is because the larger hotels have a valet service, security guards, security cameras, and provide a safe place to stay. The cheaper places may have the door to your room on the outside of the hotel, no security, and may not even have a well lit parking lot. Also, when you choose your hotel make sure it is near attractions and the location you need to go to. This way you won't have to travel as far and you will minimize the chances of getting lost.

If you are traveling to another country it is important to learn the language a little bit so you do not have too big of a communication gap. When you are alone in another country and something happens to you it will be impossible to find help if you cannot speak the language. Practice before you plan your vacation.

Another very important thing you need to do when you are traveling out of the states by yourself is find out where the US embassy is located. If you are robbed, attacked, raped, kidnapped, or anything else this is where you need to go. They will protect you and get you back to the states and home to your family.

You might consider personal devices such as a stun gun, Taser or pepper spray for protection and self defense when you travel out of the country. Always find out what the laws are before you board a plane. You don't want to end up in a foreign jail because you didn't do the proper research. Take care of yourself and plan ahead so you can have a safe vacation.

When you are traveling out of the country there are many things you need to consider so you are as safe as possible. The best thing you can do is plenty of research on the crime and the city you are going to. Find a big and safe hotel and don't be too cheap. Paying for safety is the best thing you can do in another country. Also, find the US embassy and be clear about how to get to it.

Thailand Holidays

In the last few years, more and more people have been heading for the Far East in order to enjoy a memorable holiday taking in the unique sights and sounds of the region. The difference between the culture of Europe and America and countries in the Far East such as China, Thailand, and Malaysia is profound, and the experience of visiting these destinations really can be life changing in many ways.

One of the most popular destinations in the region is Thailand, and people travel from all over thee world in order to enjoy the many different experiences on offer.

Bangkok is the capital city of Thailand, and it is one of the most impressive cities in the world. It is a place that combines the traditions of the country with a modern twist, and blends ancient monuments with shopping malls and plenty of other attractions. Most visitors to Thailand will spend at least a few days exploring Bangkok as part of their time in the country, and this provides an excellent introduction to the pleasures of the country. Make sure you visit the Grand Palace with its breath taking sculptures and the various different temples that are located within the same complex.

Aside from the gilded temples and shopping malls, Bangkok is also well known for its nightlife. Patpong Road is the centre of the action in the city, and aside from the night market that operates throughout the week there are countless bars to explore during your stay.

Once the pace of life in Bangkok becomes too much for you and you are ready to relax on the beach, Thailand has a number of options available to you. Pattaya is on the Gulf of Thailand around two hours south of the city. It has a reputation for great nightlife, but the beaches are pleasant although a little crowded at the weekend. The town has plenty of attractions, but is not always seen as the best destination for families, as the nightlife can be a bit racy.

For a more refined and laid back holiday in Thailand, why not consider visiting Cha Am or Hua Hin on the other coast of the country. These quieter destinations offer plenty of space to relax and unwind, and are great for families. There are several spa retreat type hotels in the area, and these are ideal for anyone keen on relaxing and enjoying their time.

The islands of Thailand such as Koh Samui, Krabi, and Phuket have long attracted travellers from all over the world with their beauty. Phuket is probably the most developed destination in the country, and offers an extensive range of hotels to suit all budgets. The main town has some exciting nightclubs and a good range of shops and the white sand beaches are amongst the most attractive in the country.

Aside from beaches and cities, Thailand also offers a range of inland destinations including Chiang Mai that give visitors the chance to see the more traditional Thai way of life including the famous hill tribes, and also a number of elephant sanctuaries.
