Kite-boarding & Windsurfing in Mui Ne Bay

Mui Ne is quickly becoming a South East Asian Mecca for kite-boarding and windsurfing. Mui Ne has the best conditions in all of Asia for water sports because it has Asia's strongest and most consistent cross-onshore winds and the lowest rainfall in Vietnam. Every day is a perfect day. You may ask why you haven't heard of it, if it's so great? The reason is the tourism industry has only existed for about 10 years in this province. The development is new, and this best-kept secret has only just been discovered.

The area is often referred to by the water sports industry as "Mui Ne Bay," although the bay is more correctly the "Bay of Phan Thiet" (Phan Thiet is the provincial capital of Binh Thuan Province and lies in the center of the bay). Depths in the bay are irregular, and a bank with depths of less than 5.5m, extends 1.5 miles west of Mui Ne. The true name of Mui Ne Beach is actually "Rang" but the tourist industry refers to it as Mui Ne, after the village on the point.

Storm Kite-boarding

There are currently about a dozen Kite-boarding centres in Mui Ne and the competition is fierce. Resorts have taken note of the popularity of the sport, and new teaching centres are bound to pop up all over the beach. Just a few years ago you might see just a couple of kites and sails on the water during an afternoon. These days it can be quite a spectacle. Not all kite centres are created equal. There are a lot of inexperienced amateurs with fly-by-night instructors opening new centres at resorts every season. We've made your choice much easier by choosing only the best, certified, and most experienced kite centres.

The Mediterranean has sun, sea and sand in abundance, and boasts some of the world’s best beaches. Several of these are in North Cyprus, and if you go on holiday there you’re in for a treat. The problem is that you are spoilt for choice. With so many beaches on offer, which ones should you visit or stay close to? We count down the top five to help with your choice.

5. Silver Beach, Famagusta

Silver Beach is south of the ruins at Salamis, and those who want a varied holiday in North Cyprus can combine the joys of this beach with the history and culture on offer in this famous area. The beach is also varied in terms of activities, with a reef that is great for snorkelling and exploring; there are huge numbers of fish and interesting types of marine life to be discovered among the ancient jetties in the cove. The cove is also suitable for younger children due to the shallow shelving of the sand, so the whole family can enjoy the area at any age.

4. Glapsides Public Beach, Famagusta

A short drive from Nicosia, Glapsides Public Beach is great if you are staying in the capital and looking for an accessible beach. It has excellent facilities, with local a mini market, bar, restaurant and showers, as well as dolphin rides designed to make any holiday to North Cyprus special. The beach is busy, but the atmosphere is friendly, with the beach’s users being mainly young people and families. There is also dance and club music played by DJs on the beach for people who like to party in the evenings.

3. Alagadi Turtle Beach, Kyrenia.

Alagadi Turtle Beach is for those who want to experience the natural side of North Cyprus beaches. Holidays to Kyrenia are enhanced by visiting this beach, where you can see green and loggerhead turtles come and lay their eggs in the summer; there are cordoned off areas of the beach where you can enjoy the sea and sand as usual while protecting the ecology of the local area.

2. Escape Beach, Kyrenia

Escape beach is interesting from an enjoyment and historical perspective. The beach is known as Yavuz Cikarma Plaji, the area where the Turkish Troops landed during the Peace Operation in 1974, but is now carefully landscaped with lush grass and beautiful flowers.

On the beach proper there are a plethora of water sports available, from jet skiing to banana ride, canoeing to pedal boats and from snorkelling to scuba diving. The beach also has a volleyball area, restaurant and bar, with all the facilities you could ask for. The beach has an incredible mix of activities and history for you to enjoy on your Holidays in North Cyprus.

1. Karpaz Beaches

Our number one beach is less one specific beach and more a series of remote beaches. The Beaches in Karpaz are more secluded, and appeal more to those on luxury holidays to North Cyprus because of their isolated and much more exclusive nature. Each beach in the area has its own charm; the beach at Kasa was an ancient harbour called Karpasia; Yeni Erenkoy is a public beach with showers and hot food available; and there are small coves along the Karpaz peninsula itself that offer utter seclusion. Karpaz has the greatest variety of beaches available, and staying on or near the peninsula gives you complete choice while on holiday in North Cyprus.

Cyprus Island, History In The Mediterranean Sea

The third largest island in the heart of the pristine Mediterranean Sea, Cyprus, is full of rich history, splendors that dazzle the eye and incredible attractions making it one of the world's most prominent tourist attractions. With its easy access form all corners of the earth; there is no reason to skip out on this alluring island paradise.

Cyprus has a culture rich with Western Europe. Greek mythology calls the island the birthplace of Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love and Beauty. It's location being close to the shores of Africa and Asia it is riddled with touches of the East. Its rich, cultural tones, which creep throughout the island, are an excellent place to start your journey, immersing yourself in an ambience soaked in fascinating history.

The city of Limassol is the second largest city of Cyprus, which flourishes with ancient ruins and modern wonders. One of the first places to greet tourists like a stone monolith looming on the horizon is Kolossi Castle. The castle was said to be the marriage place of Richard the Lion Heart to Berengaria of Navarro after the returning form the Crusades. It was destroyed during the 15th century but was rebuilt on a smaller scale then left to ruin and eventually the British restored the castle in 1933.

Within the city limits of Limassol lies the ancient city of Kourion. Containing some of the most masterful ruins on Cyprus, this ancient city should not be overlooked. The ruins contain a Greco-Roman theatre, which is a breath-taking sight to behold. Other key attractions in Kourion are the House of Gladiators, the House of Achilles and several well-preserved mosaics. Another place of interest is the Cyprus Medieval Museum that is housed in the Limassol Castle. If able to do so, a whole day could easily be spent exploring what the past has to offer.
Nicosia, the capital of the island, is filled with museums and districts delivering information about the history, art, literature and culture have laid the foundation for the island's colorful culture. Among them is the famous Byzantine Museum that contains historical artifacts ranging between the 9th and 18th centuries. Laiki Yitonia is an area filled with pedestrians that boasts restaurants, art galleries, and shopping. The architecture of this area pays homage to a forgotten era in the history of Cyprus.

In the capital city lie the ruins of the Kingdom of Idalion. The Ancient city is still in the process of being excavated but here this is the location with roots deep in mythological lore. This is the place where her jealous husband, through use of a wild boar, killed Aphrodite's lover, Adonis. The ancient city can be seen on the outskirts of the village, Dhali.

Among the historical sights, Cyprus is also known for its glorious festivals that occur though out the year. In June, Kataklysmos, the Festival of the Flood, takes place in Limassol. On the Sunday after Pentecost and the Monday of the Holy Spirit, people gather on the near sea to douse each other in water from the sea in honor of Aphrodite and Adonis. Singing and dance contests last thought out the festival spreading jubilation to all who attend.

In late August and early September, tourists flock in great hordes to take part in the Limassol Wine Festival. It rivals the festivals held by the ancient Greeks honoring Dionysus, the God of Wine and Aphrodite. At this festival, the locals serve up mouth-watering dishes, a vast medley of wines and a heart-warming environment with local theatre, music and dancing. This festival is the perfect time to visit Cyprus and save money while doing it (the festival is free of charge).

Although it is hidden deep in the realm of the gorgeous blue Mediterranean, Cyprus offers quite the travel destination. With is fair climate year round, there isn't a poor time to visit and get lost in culture far different from your own.

Personal Protection and Traveling Alone

Traveling alone makes people vulnerable and open for danger. There are many things that you can do for personal protection to ensure your safety.

When you are traveling alone and you know you will be alone it is very important to plan your trip in advance. Know where you are going to be, learn the map, determine your transportation and more. If you get a rental car the best thing you can do is get the GPS system. The last thing you want to happen is to get lost from your hotel on a bad side of town. A GPS allows you not to have to stop to ask strangers that you don't know for directions. Also, you should find out if the place you are traveling to is a safe destination for women to go to, especially if you are headed out of the country.

When you are traveling alone it may be tempting to get a cheap hotel so you can save money. One thing to consider is that the majority of the criminals are not going to target people in the larger and safer hotels. This is because the larger hotels have a valet service, security guards, security cameras, and provide a safe place to stay. The cheaper places may have the door to your room on the outside of the hotel, no security, and may not even have a well lit parking lot. Also, when you choose your hotel make sure it is near attractions and the location you need to go to. This way you won't have to travel as far and you will minimize the chances of getting lost.

If you are traveling to another country it is important to learn the language a little bit so you do not have too big of a communication gap. When you are alone in another country and something happens to you it will be impossible to find help if you cannot speak the language. Practice before you plan your vacation.

Another very important thing you need to do when you are traveling out of the states by yourself is find out where the US embassy is located. If you are robbed, attacked, raped, kidnapped, or anything else this is where you need to go. They will protect you and get you back to the states and home to your family.

You might consider personal devices such as a stun gun, Taser or pepper spray for protection and self defense when you travel out of the country. Always find out what the laws are before you board a plane. You don't want to end up in a foreign jail because you didn't do the proper research. Take care of yourself and plan ahead so you can have a safe vacation.

When you are traveling out of the country there are many things you need to consider so you are as safe as possible. The best thing you can do is plenty of research on the crime and the city you are going to. Find a big and safe hotel and don't be too cheap. Paying for safety is the best thing you can do in another country. Also, find the US embassy and be clear about how to get to it.

Heavy Snowfall Can Make Northern Residences Wish For a Vacation

For residents of Northern states, it comes each year-snow season. Some years it's not so bad. There's some snow here and some snow there, but you may only need to bring the snowblower out a handful of times. Other years it seems like you're getting multiple inches of snow every other day. If you shovel your snow, you probably are sore most of the time and may need a trip to the chiropractor. Regardless of how you remove your snow, you're probably thinking about one thing: places that don't have snow. Places that have white sand beaches and drinks with little umbrellas in them. Places decorated with coconut husks and earthenware clay pots. Places where a cold day might be one where the mercury dips below eighty. Anywhere but the frigid, snow covered expanse that is your hometown.

For some, it's not simply the amount of snow that falls at a time, but the amount of time that the ground is covered with snow. If a foot of snow falls but it melts in the next week, it's not that big of a deal. Sure, it's tough for a couple of days, but then it melts down to the ground in some places and you can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Once it melts fully, winter turns into something that more closely resembles fall. When temperatures fall along with the snow, you can be in for a long stretch of snow cover. If you like skiing, snowshoeing, or snowmobiling, that can be great. If you're like most people, however, you'll run inside to watch tv, shop online, or fire up some pottery in electric kilns. They'd rather not step a foot outside if they don't have to-until the spring thaw.

But while they probably won't admit it, the snow builds more than just character. Simply put, it makes the good weather that much sweeter when it does come. After all, it's hard to truly appreciate an eighty-degree day with no clouds in the sky if that's all you have. Eventually you'll take it for granted, because it's hard to appreciate something that is always staring you right in the face. And to be honest, that's what some hearty Northern souls have done. Rather than get down about the snow, they've put down their clay molds and went outside to play. They figure they might as well enjoy it while it's there, so they have snowball fights, build a snowman, or sled in the backyard hill. They might even build a snow fort with the kids. Of course, no matter how much fun you can have in the snow, it doesn't mean you still don't want that beach vacation.

You may not be able to take a vacation whenever you want one, but if you create beautiful earthenware clay pottery, you can decorate your house like you'd see on vacation. AMACO is your place for all your pottery needs, from electric kilns to clay molds. If it's snowing outside, visit AMACO and find what you need to take your mind off the white stuff!
